What's your favourite thing about coming to class?
Everyone is warm and welcoming. Even on days when I feel almost too tired to come to class, I'm always glad that I did.
What's your favourite SoS memory?
Dressing up for the class before Christmas, even though the reindeer antlers turned out to be not so compatible with dancing.
Cathy McNair
What's your favourite dance move and why?
Shake, shake, rock, rock of the Sailors Hornpipe and the pivot turn with a partner in a reel because, simply, they're fun to do!
What's your favourite SoS memory?
The amusing response to my comment at my first SoS class, when there was trouble with the audio system, that at my last dance class we still used vinyl records.
McKendree Martin
How did you first start dancing with SoS?
I had always wanted to try Highland dance but didn't think I'd be able to find an adult class. After a trip to Scotland in 2018 I started getting targeted ads on Facebook, one of which was for the Absolute Beginner Workshop. I signed up for the December 2018 session and have been dancing with SoS ever since.
What's your favourite thing about coming to class?
The workout! I love pushing myself to develop the strength and control needed for Highland dance. I leave class feeling satisfied and powerful.
Michelle Merry
What's your favourite thing about coming to class?
The joy I feel in my heart and soul when I am there. There is absolutely nothing like it.
What's your favourite dance move and why?
The bow or curtesy. It either marks the beginning of something incredible or the successful end of a wonderful experience.
Jacqueline Fehr
What's your favourite dance move and why?
Highcuts in the hornpipe because it's only one circle.
What's your favourite SoS memory?
The absolute joy I feel when I dance.
