Welcome to Shot of Scotch Vancouver!
This is the “newer” branch of Shot of Scotch. Formed in the spring of 2013, we are excited to be a part of the Vancouver dancing scene! Under the Artistic Direction of Susan Nase, Shot of Scotch Vancouver strives to create new, exciting, contemporary dance pieces while maintaining a high standard of technique, as well as remaining true to the deep Scottish roots of the centuries old art form of Highland dance. Whenever possible, Shot of Scotch Vancouver is thrilled to collaborate with musicians and artists of other disciplines. Our members all have solid backgrounds in competitive highland dance, and many of us are teachers, but we also have a wide range of skills including Scottish country dance, singing, guitar, fiddle, tap dance, acting etc. that allow us to explore far beyond the expected bounds of a Scottish highland dance troupe!
Shot of Scotch Vancouver has been seen performing all across the lower mainland including at the BC Highland Games, CelticFest, The BC Government Multicultural Awards, SFU Diwali, The Dance Centre, The Rogue Folk Club, numerous ceilidhs, festivals, Robbie Burns events, birthdays and private celebrations. A highlight of 2016 was being invited to Paris France to perform and teach at the 8th Annual International Body Music Festival, a large international gathering of top callibre artists from all across the globe. In our short time as a company we have had the great pleasure to work with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, the Royal Academy of Bhangra, the Seaforth Highlanders, RCMP Division “E” Pipes and Drums, popular Celtic band Blackthorn, Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra, among may other pipers, fiddlers and renowned musicians.
Shot of Scotch Vancouver offers a wide range of performance styles — please see our Performance page and our Gallery for more on what we do! We have practice and performance opportunities for experienced (premier-level) highland dancers as well as adult recreational workshops and classes. Please see our Membership and Lessons pages for more information.
