NYC

It's Never Too Late To Congratulate!

Just last weekend one of our Premier dancers, Anna Fitzgerald, competed in the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina! Growing up in Cary, NC, going to Grandfather Mountain was a staple for Anna and her family. So after moving to NYC last year, going back home to compete was especially nostalgic this time. Anna was even able to reunite with the competition coordinators Pat Johnston and Amy Mooney. Anna credits Pat for helping her return to the world of Highland Dance and she couldn’t be more grateful for Pat’s lasting influence on her dancing career!

Despite the free sunburn, Anna had a wonderful time competing in the three-day event! She competed in the Pre-Championship on Friday and placed in all four events! She also competed in the National Dances on Sunday and placed in the Jig! Go Anna! All of your hard work and dedication to this sport has really paid off, and everyone at Shot of Scotch NYC is so proud of your accomplishments!

Emily Ritter, New Shot of Scotch NYC Lead Choreographer!

Emily Ritter, our newly appointed Lead Choreographer, has been dancing and choreographing from a young age. Her first Scottish dance choreographies were all set to the tune of Cotton-Eyed Joe and were created when she and her dance friends were supposed to be practicing highcuts in her living room. She soon graduated to choreographing group performances for the Kansas City St. Andrews Scottish Highland Dance Association. She also choreographed several solos that she competed at the B.A.T.D. Sadie Simpson Highland Scholarship and Highland Games across the country. She is very much looking forward to bringing her enthusiastic style to Shot of Scotch, and is working on a new choreography for the group that is part-jig, part-reel and very high-energy to match the frenzied pace of NYC.

Competition Season!

It is officially Summer so that means it is officially competition season for Highland dancers everywhere! And the members of Shot of Scotch NYC have already been busy collecting medals and taking names!

Emily Ritter, Premier Highland dancer and SoS NYC member recently competed in her 20th Kansas City Highland Games; yup we said 20th! And if that isn't impressive enough Emily finished 3rd overall in the Highland dances and placed FIRST in the Highland Laddie during the National dances! GO EMILY!

Another competitive milestone came when our founding member, and BATD certified teacher Kendra Monroe, escorted two of her young dancers to their first Highland dance competition at the Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival! The girls competed in the Primary and Beginner categories and performed beautifully! We wish them great success in their future competitive careers as Highland dancers!

Lastly up next Anna Fitzgerald, another Premier Highland dancer and SoS NYC member, will be competing this July at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games! We cannot wait to cheer you on Anna! Good luck!

Brooklyn Ballet First Look

This weekend Shot of Scotch NYC had the privilege to perform an original choreography by founding member Kendra Monroe at the Brooklyn Ballet "First Look". First Look is a spotlight for up and coming choreographers and dancers in the NYC area.

Three of our dancers, Abi, Anna and Kendra, got to perform both Friday and Saturday night in Brooklyn Heights at The Actors Fund Arts Center. We'd like to thank the Brooklyn Ballet for this opportunity to share our love of this Scottish art form. Also we'd like to thank fellow SoS NYC member and dancer, Carlie, for coming out to watch us Saturday night!

New York Military Tattoo 2015!

The 2015 New York Military Tattoo was a huge success! Shot of Scotch NYC was so incredibly privileged to dance two original choreographies in three separate shows this year! The choreographies were put together by former Highland Dancing World Champion, Rachel McLagan! Rachel and her dancers from Scotland's own Flings and Things along with the Celtic Cross Dancers from Canada joined us in this once in a lifetime event!

We also wanted to thank the ever talented and ambitious director of the event, Mr. Magnus Orr! This is your vision Magnus and we are so proud to be a part of it! Until next year! Slainte!
